In which I talk about a whole lot of things going on.

It’s been a while, hasn’t it?

First off, I want to announce that I’ve joined a collective called Boxcar Comics with a brand new strip I’ve started called The Kenmore which features Iago the Deviled Egg, a character from my previous online comic, Between The Panels. Phew. That’s a lot of links.

I’m two weeks into The Kenmore already and I’m feeling like I’m starting to hit my stride. I’m updating Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays, so if you have some time, go check it out. I’m trying to keep the humor fairly general, but let’s be honest…there’s a certain demographic in the online-comic-reading crowd I’ll have to pander to a bit. Hopefully that will be fairly transparent.

Along with The Kenmore will come some merchandising stuff down the road. People have actually been asking for Iago shirts for a long time now and I finally have an excuse to get some made. So expect that soon.

Lookie! it’s an album cover!

The .HEREtoday. CD is finally available for ordering! They’ve got a CD release party coming up, but now’s your chance to order the first-ever Brandon J. Carr-designed album! Wooooohoo! I’ve already got a couple copies (one open, one sealed), so you don’t need to buy me one unless you really want to. While you’re at it, check these kids out live, too!

So click on the kid jumping off the slide to buy your very own copy!

I’m going to be revamping this site a bit as I’m trying to use it as a portfolio site as well as a sadly-neglected blog. Various and sundry things have kept me away from fiddling with it, but I’m making more time now.

In which I get excited about stuff.

I’ve finally sent the proofs for the upcoming .HEREtoday. album (sent around 3:00 this morning). I’ll give some sneak peeks closer to the release, but it’s REALLY exciting to be part of it. I think it all came together really well. The band seems to be digging it so far.

The bad news is a delay in today’s Femme Noir strip. I feel awful about it and I fully expect a well-deserved flogging from Chris. It will be up later today! Sorry, Chris!

In which I talk about new CDs (Coldplay and White Stripes) and artwork for .heretoday.'s new CD.

I picked up the new albums from Coldplay and The White Stripes yesterday and I’m still battling between my expectations and the reality of what they’ve delivered. I’ve enjoyed albums by both groups in the past (group being an overstatement for the Stripes) and since both albums deviate from their predecessors, it’s hard to judge. I might add more about them over time as I listen more and get more comfortable with change (feh!), but I might not. I’m certainly willing to give both of them enough relistens to reach a more solid conclusion.

I’m currently working with rockin’ local band .heretoday. on their album layout and artwork. I should have it done by the end of the week and will definitely share the fruits of my labors here (unless they get mad at me for doing it…then I’ll do it MORE). Album art and design is a unique challenge, one I’ve not experienced before. I am enjoying it, though, and hope the band enjoys the final product. Just promise me, dear website visitor, that you’ll think about picking up a copy of the album and then e-mail the band to tell them you bought it because of the sexy packaging. I’ll link you to where you can buy it later.

On Beck's new Guero album.

Oh, man…you’ve got to get the new Beck album, Guero. It’s just fantastic. I’m not a die-hard Beck fan, although I enjoyed Mellow Gold, and even Odelay to a certain degree. This new album just has a lot of flavor and resonance to it. I’ve listened to it repeatedly without losing interest or feeling the urge to skip specific tracks. It’s just a solid album.

So the They Might Be Giants show was cool last night.

So the They Might Be Giants show was cool last night. We arrived shortly before they went on to play…a mistake. The show was at a Borders in Vienna and the place was mobbed. We were pushed way back against some bookshelves and couldn’t really see the stage. The Borders employees did lead the band right past us, though, which was neat. My son yelled “Hi, Johns!” as they went by. (For the uninitiated, both of the primary band members are named John).

So they played and we listened (being unable to see anything) with my kid on my shoulders dancing and clapping and, upon recognizing songs as they started, shouting out song names.

Afterwards, we stood in line and got our copy of “Here Come The ABCs” signed for the little guy (I refrained from bringing my whole collection) and our copy of “Bed, Bed, Bed.” The two Johns looked exhausted as we posed for a picture with them, but Flans mock-secretly gave my kid an extra handful of stickers.

Fun fun fun.
